“Help a lost pet find their way home.”
Pet Database is doing something a little different. On Thursday 18 June, we’re transforming an iconic Brighton chip shop into the Micro-Chip Shop – a one-day community pop-up dedicated to helping lost pets get found.
Lost pets spike every summer. Warm weather, open doors, and busy gardens mean more animals stray further than they should, and when they’re found, the microchip details that should reunite them with their owners are often out of date, or missing entirely. We want to change that.
What’s happening on the day?
For one day, a beloved Brighton chippy becomes something more. Here’s what to expect:
-
Chip wraps with a purposeYour fish and chips arrive wrapped in printed alerts featuring real missing pets, each with a QR code linking directly to a live Pet Database listing. Scan, share, and help spread the word.
-
Missing pet boardsBrowse local lost pet listings displayed throughout the shop. You might recognise a face or share a sighting that makes all the difference.
-
Free microchip scanningBring your pet along. Our team will be on hand with scanners to check your pet’s chip status and help you update your records on the spot.
-
Community search networkOur staff and brand ambassadors will guide visitors to scan listings, share sightings, and connect with local pet owners turning a chip shop queue into a search party.
Why we’re doing this
Microchipping is a legal requirement for dogs in the UK, but having a chip is only half the story. If the contact details registered to that chip are out of date, it’s as good as not having one at all. Thousands of reunions that should happen simply don’t, because of a phone number that changed or an address never updated.
The Micro-Chip Shop is our way of turning that around – not through a lecture, but through community. Because if enough people in one place are looking out for a lost pet, the chances of getting them home go up dramatically.
