They help us make sure every dog is matched with the right home for life. Everyone living in your household should be fully on board with the adoption before you apply. All adoptions are subject to a home check. If you rent your home, we'll also need written permission from your landlord. The main applicant must be at least 18 years old. If you're new to the breed, we strongly encourage you to do some research before applying. Akitas are wonderful dogs, but they have unique characteristics and needs. Adopting an Akita is a long-term commitment. They typically live between 10 and 14 years, so it's important to think not only about your current circumstances, but also your future plans. If you're planning to move house, relocate abroad or expect significant life changes, it may be worth waiting until things have settled. Please make sure you're able to cover the ongoing costs of ownership, including veterinary care, insurance, grooming, training (where needed) and a good quality diet. You'll also need a secure garden with robust fencing of around 6ft to help keep your dog safe.
