Oldies Club

About us

The Oldies Club is a volunteer-run dog rescue charity specialising in rescuing and rehoming older dogs aged 7 and over. Founded in 2005, they place dogs in foster homes rather than kennels, where each dog is assessed, vet-checked, and cared for before being matched with a new home. They also offer a free advertising service for older dogs held by other rescues, and run a Sponsor Dogs programme for dogs too ill to be rehomed.

Our adoption policy

Four-step process: initial contact by email or phone, application form, home visit, then an adoption visit to the foster home where the dog is staying. All family members and any other dogs must attend the adoption visit. A minimum donation of £150 is required (reduced for very elderly dogs). Adopters sign a contract committing to return the dog to Oldies Club if they can no longer keep it. All dogs are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and vet-checked before adoption. Adoption Requirements Adopters must agree to positive, reward-based training only (no choke chains, dominance methods, or punishment). Veterinary insurance is strongly recommended. All household members must be present at the home visit. Christmas adoptions are discouraged unless the household will be quiet. Keeper Interview No formal keeper interview. The home visit covers similar ground: the volunteer discusses the adjustment period, training, feeding, health, and answers questions from the family. Home Visits Yes. Conducted by experienced volunteers across the UK before adoption is confirmed. The visit assesses whether the home suits the specific dog's needs, not whether it is clean or large. The visitor meets all household members. Results are not shared on the day; decisions are made centrally. Rejection for a specific dog does not mean rejection as an adopter.
