Purpose: This policy sets out the procedures, obligations, and guidance for adopters of dogs from Tilly’s Pack. It is designed to safeguard the welfare of our animals while ensuring clear understanding and fairness for adopters. --- 1. Eligibility Dogs are placed in suitable homes only. Adopters must provide: Valid identification and address verification Agreement to home visits as needed Evidence of ability to provide proper care Dogs may be placed in homes with older children only if advised by the rescue. --- 2. Adoption Agreements Adoption is completed only after a signed adoption contract. The adoption contract incorporates relevant parts of this policy. Terms of the adoption contract take precedence over general guidance in this policy. --- 3. Care and Welfare Obligations Adopters agree to: Provide a safe, secure, and loving home environment Feed a nutritious, species-appropriate diet Ensure daily exercise and mental stimulation appropriate for the dog’s age, breed, and health Ensure the dog is not left alone for excessive periods without adequate care or supervision Seek veterinary care promptly for any health concerns Inform the rescue immediately of serious health or behavioural changes Use reward-based, force-free training methods only --- 4. Home Visits and Welfare Checks The rescue reserves the right to reasonable welfare checks, either in-person or virtually. These checks will be arranged with reasonable notice, except in urgent welfare situations. --- 5. Restrictions Dogs must not be rehomed or transferred without prior written consent from the rescue. Adopters must ensure dogs wear identification (collar and tag) when outside. Any behavioural or medical concerns must be communicated promptly. --- 6. Return of Dog If, at any point, the adoption is unsuitable or the dog’s welfare is at risk, the rescue may request the dog’s return. Adopters must comply with such requests and cooperate with reasonable arrangements for the dog’s return. Emergency welfare concerns may require immediate return. --- 7. Fees and Deposits Adoption fees are payable as agreed and contribute toward the dog’s care. Fees are non-refundable only in limited circumstances, such as a breach of the adoption contract. Any disputes over fees will be handled fairly and proportionately. --- 8. Legal Considerations This policy is intended to support the adoption contract and cannot override statutory rights under UK law. Adopters are considered consumers, and the rescue is considered a trader under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. All agreements are governed by the laws of England and Wales. --- 9. Behavioural Considerations Some dogs may require experienced or older-child-only homes due to temperament or bouncy nature. The rescue may provide behavioural reports and guidance to support successful adoption. --- 10. Policy Review This policy may be reviewed periodically to ensure it reflects current legal standards, welfare best practices, and organisational procedures.
