Somerset & Dorset Animal Rescue

About us

Somerset & Dorset Animal Rescue is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of unwanted animals. The rescue is run entirely by non-wage volunteers juggling their full-time jobs with caring for over 60 animals. We currently have in our care dogs, cats, ponies, sheep, rabbits and chickens and we never know what is going to be brought to us next. Because we have no salaried full-time staff we are not always on hand to answer the telephone and we know that can be frustrating for people when they cannot contact us. Please bear with us and remember that here the animals always come first and caring for this many takes time and patience. Your calls are important to us and we will get back to you as soon as we can. This also means that viewing of animals can only be by appointment so please do contact us before turning up. We are reliant on the generosity of the public and are always grateful for food and bedding donations.

Our adoption policy

Dog Adoption Policy – Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue Thank you for considering adoption! As a non-profit rescue, we work to rehome dogs from the UK and abroad. Please review our adoption process before proceeding. Step 1: Visit our Facebook page to browse available dogs - https://www.facebook.com/somersetanddorsetanimalrescue Step 2: Message us via Facebook or direct link to start a conversation ( m.me/1495513400734923 ). We may arrange a home visit to ensure compatibility and provide guidance. Step 3: A one or two-week trial allows you to see how the dog fits into your home. You’ll be responsible for their care during this period. Please keep us updated on their progress. Step 4: If the trial is successful, you’ll pay a fixed adoption fee, covering partial costs of rescue and care. Most dogs are neutered/spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested for relevant health conditions. EU dogs come with passports. Step 5: Upon adoption, paperwork is completed, and the microchip is transferred to your details. Step 6: We are a backup rescue, meaning we will always be here as your dog’s second home if needed. Lifetime support and advice are available - please reach out if challenges arise. We look forward to helping you find the perfect companion and thank you for choosing adoption! 🐶❤️
